6 Spots for Washington High Schoolers: Free D.C. Advocacy Program This Summer
The ACLU's National Advocacy Institute is a 10-day summer leadership program in Washington, D.C. for high school students ages 15 to 18. This year's program runs July 20 through 29 at American University, and ACLU of Washington has six spots reserved for students in our state. No prior experience in advocacy or politics is needed.
Students will learn from ACLU lawyers, organizers, and activists; explore issues that affect their lives and the people they love; and participate in a real Day of Action on Capitol Hill where they advocate directly with lawmakers. They come home with leadership skills they can use anywhere and a national network of young changemakers.
This is the Institute's 10th anniversary, and it overlaps with the ACLU's national Biennial Leadership Conference, so students will be surrounded by hundreds of leaders from across the country.
Scholarships are available that can cover the full program cost — including housing, meals, and all activities. Travel stipends are also available. Cost should not stop any student from applying.
Only six spots — deadline is June 1. If you know a student who would be a great fit, please email cblocker@aclu-wa.org with:
Student name and age
Parent/guardian name and contact info (email and phone)
A few sentences about why they're interested
